Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado 1500

In a matchup between the 2018 Ram 1500 vs. the Chevy Silverado, it's a tough call. They both offer great convenience and performance, and both vehicles look stylish-but which one is better? Only one of these trucks has the substance to match its style.

Convenience Features

The Ram 1500 has everything you need for comfort and convenience. The Tradesman base model offers a 40/20/40 split bench seat and 4-spoke steering wheel. A 12-Volt auxiliary power outlet ensures your electronics stay charged and ready to use. An electronic vehicle information center keeps you updated on how systems are, while dash liner and floor tunnel insulation provide comfort and warmth. Upgrade to the Limited for a power 10-way driver's seat and an overhead console with a garage door opener.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 isn't a slouch for convenient interior features. The WT base model also has a split bench seat and a manual tilting steering column. It also has air conditioning and vinyl floor covering. Upgrade to the ultimate version, the High Country, and you'll find illuminated visor vanity mirrors and a heated steering wheel. The big difference? The Ram 1500 has more available base model choices.

Power and Performance

The Ram 1500 has one of the best ratings in its class for engines and transmissions. The Base model sports a 3.6L, V6 engine with 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. It's available for both rear-wheel or four-wheel drive cases. If you think a V6 can't surprise you, think again: this engine is quiet but powerful, and packs a strong punch. If you want more, though, go with the 5.7L V8, with its 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

Meanwhile, the Base model Chevy Silverado 1500 has a 4.3L V6, with 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. The base engine may be bigger, but it still lags behind the Ram 1500 in terms of horsepower. Its upgrade is a 5.3L, V8 engine offering 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The ride is smooth, no complaints there... Except that both upgrades fail to match up to the horsepower and/or torque of the Ram.

Trim Options

The 2018 Ram 1500 has an impressive 10 trims: Tradesman, Express, Big Horn, Sport, Harvest, Night, Laramie, Rebel, Laramie Longhorn, and the Limited.  Limited highlights include leather bucket seats and a Uconnect® 4C NAV with 8.4-inch display. The 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 offers eight trims: WT, LS, LT, LT Z71, Custom, LTZ, LTZ Z71, and the High Country. Highlights of the High Country include a Bose® sound system and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls. Nice features for the Silverado, but not as many trims.
