2023 Jeep Compass vs Ford Escape

The available Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System of the Compass is prepped with a handful of modes, including Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock, and more. There’s some overlap with the Escape’s available Selectable Drive Modes. However, you’ll have questionable traction in mud and on rocks, as the Escape’s system doesn’t offer those modes.

On top of this, you’ll also be working with an available Hill Descent Control system in the Jeep Compass. This system will let your vehicle automatically manage its speed when you’re driving downhill to prevent you from accelerating too quickly. Unfortunately, the Ford Escape doesn’t offer a similar feature, making it less fit for driving in hilly areas.

When it comes to power, you’ll find more with the base trim of the Jeep Compass than the Ford Escape. In fact, the Jeep comes standard with a 2.0L engine that offers 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, while the Ford Escape has a standard 1.5L engine. With this engine, you’ll only achieve 180 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque.

While you can upgrade to a 2.0L engine on the Escape, you’ll still only have up to 280 lb-ft of torque, falling behind the Compass.

Both the Compass and the Escape offer 60/40 split-folding rear seats to accommodate cargo items small and large.

To make it easier to drive through the rain or snow, the Compass also brings with it some impressive features that will help make your life easier when weather reduces visibility. This includes heated exterior mirrors to help prevent them from icing over.

In addition, the Jeep Compass is ready to take on any storm or weather with these features:

• Rain-sensing windshield wipers that turn on and adjust automatically.
• Windshield wiper de-icer that heats the bottom of the windshield to help clear the wipers of slush and ice.

The Ford Escape offers heated exterior mirrors but fails to offer as many weather-ready features as the Jeep Compass.

When climbing into the 2023 Jeep Compass, you’ll have the option of being greeted with the standard 10.1-inch touchscreen display. Think of this wide, full-colored screen as your information hub where you can control all driving and media settings.

Now, riders can play, share, and stream their content easily. The system also makes room to connect up to ten smartphones via Bluetooth® simultaneously. Downloading the available Uconnect® app allows drivers to use their smartphone to start their engine, lock or unlock their vehicle, or receive a safety notification.

The system also includes TomTom’s Traffic & Travel Services, giving drivers access to current traffic information needed for a smooth ride.
