Jeep Compass vs Toyota RAV4: Capability

2021 Jeep Compass Fletcher CDJR

The capability of these two models will be important to consider, if you want extra traction in slippery conditions. The Jeep Compass comes standard in a 4x2 drivetrain, while a 4x4 configuration is also available. Similarly, the Toyota RAV4 offers standard front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive.

Both models know how to adapt to changing road conditions and allow you to choose a drive mode that best fits the situation. For example, all Jeep Compass 4x4 vehicles come with the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System. With this system, you’ll get a dial that can switch between the following modes:

  • Auto
  • Mud
  • Sand
  • Snow

Plus, the highest trim level, the Trailhawk, also offers Rock mode for when you’re about to embark on a bumpy ride.

On the Toyota model, you’ll find an available Multi-Terrain Select dial. It offers similar modes to the Jeep model. Its settings include MUD & SAND, SNOW, and ROCK & DIRT.

If you like to go off-roading, you may encounter a few hills along the way. On the Compass, you’ll have the available Hill Descent Control, a feature that automatically engages the brakes as you carefully move downwards. On the RAV4, you’ll appreciate a similar feature through the available Downhill Assist Control.

Yet another interesting comparison is found in the approach and the departure angles of these two vehicles. With a higher angle, you can choose to climb taller mountains. The approach and departure angles of these two vehicles are outlined in the table below:

Jeep Compass vs. Toyota RAV4: Approach and Departure Angles

33.6°

Toyota RAV4

21.5°

Although the standard approach angle of the Compass is a little less than that in the RAV4, its departure angle more than makes up for it. It displays incredible capability when it comes to descending hills. As the numbers show, the RAV4 unfortunately can’t match the Jeep model in this capability.

Jeep Compass vs Toyota RAV4: Technology

2021 Jeep Compass Fletcher CDJR

Taking comfort and convenience to a new level, the Compass also includes a wealth of smart features designed to help take the edge off your daily commute. Thoroughly modern, you can travel with confidence knowing that you and your passengers are staying fully connected to your favorite music and apps through its simple-to-navigate standard 7-inch touchscreen.

The Compass also includes a long list of innovative features, like the available 8.4-inch Uconnect® 4C NAV system, along with standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ capability. Likewise, the Toyota RAV4 provides its own suite of smart features that are easily accessed through its 7-inch touchscreen display, where you’ll also find standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration.

The RAV4 goes on to offer a standard 3-month subscription to SiriusXM®, whereas the Compass offers an available 6-month subscription. The Jeep model also includes a few other available offerings that you won’t find on the Toyota model, including:

  • SiriusXM® Travel Link – find weather information, fuel prices, and sports scores
  • SiriusXM® Traffic Plus – find information on traffic, road construction, and road closures

Additionally, both models offer an available Wi-Fi Hotspot to provide further internet connection for the devices your passengers are using. On the Jeep Compass, this hotspot can be used by up to eight devices. The hotspot on the Toyota RAV4, however, can only connect to five devices.

Jeep Compass vs Toyota RAV4: Interior Amenities

The Compass and the RAV4 come with numerous interior amenities that will make longer journeys more comfortable. Available features that the two vehicles share include the following:

  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • 8-way power-adjustable driver seat
  • Driver seat lumbar support

However, the Jeep model makes sure to include an available 8-way power-adjustable seat with lumbar support for your front-seat passenger, giving them a chance to enjoy this amenity as well. Unfortunately, the RAV4’s passenger seat doesn't see any upgrades. Instead, it remains a 4-way manual seat with no lumbar support across all trim levels.

The Jeep Compass has another passenger comfort too. It comes standard with Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control, giving you and your front-seat passenger the chance to each choose your custom temperature preference. The RAV4 doesn’t come standard with a dual-zone system—you’d have to upgrade to a higher trim level to enjoy this feature.

As the driver, you are definitely going to appreciate additional amenities, including the Jeep’s available rain-sensitive/intermittent windshield wipers and available windshield wiper de-icer. You’ll feel better prepared to handle various weather conditions, knowing that you can see clearly. The Toyota RAV4 also provides these available windshield wiper amenities.

For additional convenience, these models offer a remote keyless entry system as well as an available upgraded system, known as Keyless Enter ‘n Go™ on the Jeep and the Smart Key System on the Toyota. With these systems, you’ll just need to have the key fob nearby to unlock your door.

In the Jeep Compass, you can leave your keys in your pocket as you start up the vehicle, thanks to the standard Push-Button Start. Unfortunately, this feature doesn’t come standard on the Toyota RAV4 and will require an upgrade.
