Ram 1500 vs GMC Sierra: Power and MPG

Ram 1500Both the Ram 1500 and the GMC Sierra have several engine options, so you can personalize your power output to suit your next project. You’ll get some more strength with the standard 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine of the Ram 1500, which produces 305 horsepower. The standard 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 of the Sierra is maxed out at just 285 horsepower!

The Ram 1500 is also more fuel efficient than the GMC Sierra. Its standard fuel economy is an EPA-estimated 20 city/25 highway MPG! The standard configuration of the GMC Sierra only manages an EPA-estimated 16 city/21 highway MPG.

To help increase efficiency and performance, there’s the eTorque Mild Hybrid System. You’ll only find this available system on the Ram 1500. It replaces the traditional alternator with a 48-volt battery-powered generator. It maximizes MPG and increases towing capabilities.

Getting to Work

Both trucks are ready to get to work with strong towing capabilities, but you’ll get to haul more with the Ram 1500. It has a maximum towing capacity of 12,750 pounds! The GMC Sierra can only manage towing up to 12,100 pounds.

These trucks also have a host of available technologies that will make towing your haul even easier, but you’ll only find Active-Level™ Four Corner Air Suspension on the Ram 1500. It lets you lower the truck to make hooking up your trailer simple. It will even lower the vehicle at highway speeds to reduce drag and improve MPG!

If you have equipment that doesn’t need a trailer, both the Ram 1500 and GMC Sierra offer available multifunction tailgates to make loading up even easier. However, only that of the Ram 1500 has swing-away doors. They’ll let you load with a forklift and make cleaning out the bed a breeze!

Ram 1500 vs GMC Sierra: Interior Comfort

Ram 1500 InteriorLooking to relax after a hard day’s work? You can do it in either truck. They offer the soft touch of available leather-trimmed seats and the customizable comfort of dual-zone automatic temperature control. While both models offer spacious crew cab configurations, the Ram 1500 has 45.1 inches of rear legroom, while the Sierra is maxed out at just 43.4 inches!

To keep you connected on and off the worksite, both pickup trucks come with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration. When your favorite song comes on, however, you’ll want to be in the Ram 1500. Its available Harman Kardon® Premium Audio System has 19 speakers! The available Bose® system of the Sierra only offers seven speakers.

Finally, there’s the reconfigurable center console, which you’ll only find on the Ram 1500. It has four unique arrangements that make room for hanging file folders or a 15-inch laptop. There’s even USB charging ports to keep you powered up!
