2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited Review

The new Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited is one of the most hotly anticipated vehicles of the coming model year. Drivers all over the Greenwood, Franklin and New Whiteland, IN, regions are just desperate to see what we're going to get from this long-awaited redesign of the classic Jeep.

Unfortunately, little to no solid information has been released yet, save a few spy photos that have made it into the wild. There are, however a couple of conclusions that we can draw in terms of what we hope to see when it does hit showrooms in a few months. Check out this preview of what we hope to expect when the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited is finally unveiled and released later this model year.

2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited is a direct descendent of the original Jeep Willys from World War II. For many decades this vehicle-the first sport utility vehicle-has been an American classic, getting people where they need to go and when they need to get there. A new model is expected this year, with a complete redesign in the works. The Unlimited is the four-door extended version of the Wrangler.

Performance

We expect the new Wrangler JK Unlimited to be driven by the same 285 horsepower Pentastar V6 3.6-liter engine, though there are hints that we might actually see a new engine added to the lineup this year-a turbocharged inline 4 turbodiesel. It's even possible that we might see a hybrid model come up later on in the model year, which will be a very exciting development for those Jeep enthusiasts who have been waiting for improved fuel economy.

Jeep has always been the class leader in off-road performance, and there's no reason to doubt that will continue. The same design with improved techniques will promise even better off-roading than ever before. Expect improved suspension, better underbody protection, and overall improved trail capability.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Exterior

The photos we've seen so far reveal the same old Wrangler we've come to know and love. That is, for the most part, this vehicle will still look just like a Jeep. That's also a welcome development; Jeep is one of the few manufacturers out there who have stuck to their design guns and not done a complete appearance change. You'll still get the vertical-slotted grill and round headlights, plus the X design taillights that hearken back to the original Willys fuel tanks.

We expect to see more aluminum panels, improved aerodynamics and a stronger, tougher and lighter-weight frame. We expect front and rear axles to remain the same. There is also an expected pickup truck version of the Unlimited, which is a very interesting development.
