Compass vs Cherokee: Performance & Capability

Jeep Compass BlackThe Compass comes with one engine standard, a 2.4-liter Tigershark® MultiAir® 2 with 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque and manual or automatic transmission options. The Cherokee features this same 2.4-liter Tigershark® MultiAir® 2 engine, too.

For even more power, Cherokee does offer some additional engine choices, like a 3.2-liter V6 that nets 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. Topping it all off is the Jeep Cherokee’s available 2.0-liter turbo engine, which generates an impressive 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Properly equipped, the Cherokee can tow up to 4,500 pounds.

4,500 pounds is quite a lot of weight. With that, you can hook up your boat and do some fishing or grab your small trailer for a weekend of camping fun!

Both the Compass and the Cherokee are available with off-road features to enhance the capability. The Selec-Terrain system, which offers a range of terrain settings for different road conditions, tow hooks, and other specialized features, are available for both, though the Cherokee has a wider range of off-road options and 4-wheel drive systems.

Jeep Compass vs Cherokee: Interior Dimensions

The Cherokee and the Compass each seat five people on comfortable, supportive cloth seating. Both rows have plenty of room for passengers to stretch out, as well as ample padding for long-distance comfort. There are also soft-touch surfaces and an array of interior upgrades, such as leather upholstery, heated seating, and power-adjustable seating for more comfort.

In the trunk, the Compass has 27.2 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats upright, expanding to 59.8 cubic feet with the second row folded down. The Cherokee has 25.8 cubic feet of volume with the second row upright and a maximum capacity of 54.7 cubic feet.

Though the Compass has more space, the Cherokee has a storage compartment underneath the cargo floor for discreet hauling. The Compass has a forward-folding front-passenger seat to expand the cargo space and haul cargo.

As for passengers, both the Compass and the Cherokee offer spacious accommodations. Take a look:

2021 Jeep Compass vs Cherokee: Innovative Technology

Jeep Compass TechnologyThe Cherokee and the Compass share an array of valuable standard technology features.

With both SUV’s being manufactured by Jeep, they both come standard with Jeep’s Uconnect® infotainment system, which is shown on a standard 7-inch touchscreen display. No matter the vehicle, the Uconnect® interface is one of the most intuitive on the market, featuring straightforward inputs and crisp, clear graphics on a customizable display.

Both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration come standard as well. Just connect your compatible smartphone to send and receive text messages, calls, and much more seamlessly and effortlessly. An 8.4-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, premium audio, and navigation are optional on both the 2021 Cherokee and Compass.

Speaking of premium audio, how does an available 9-speaker Alpine® Premium Audio System sound? We think it sounds pretty great! On the Compass, this sound system is part of the Sun and Sound Group, and also includes a subwoofer. As an aside, while this isn’t necessarily a technology feature, the Sun and Sound Package also features a Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof. Now, you can bring the outside in.

Jeep Compass & Cherokee: Confidence-Boosting Safety Features

Safety is the final area where we will compare the Jeep Cherokee vs. Jeep Compass. Both vehicles are extremely safe and offer an array of active accident-avoidance features, such as…

Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking: This available feature uses radar sensors to detect if your vehicle is approaching another vehicle too quickly. If it is, it will send a warning so you can take proper action and slow down.

LaneSense® Lane Departure Warning with Lane Departure Warning: Sometimes you may unintentionally drift from your designated lane. If this starts to happen, optional LaneSense® will catch it, and will alert you with both visible and audible warnings. If you don’t respond, it may even help you move into the right lane. This feature comes standard on Compass Limited and Trailhawk models.

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go: Offered on the Jeep Compass, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go automatically shifts your driving speed to keep a pre-selected distance from the vehicle ahead. If necessary, it can even bring your vehicle to a stop without driver input.
