Ram 2500 vs Chevy Silverado 2500: Power & Performance

The 2022 Ram 2500 and 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 each offer powerful engine options. The Ram 2500 comes standard with a 6.4L HEMI® V8 that’s able to generate 410 horsepower. The Silverado 2500 base engine is a 6.6L V8, but generates a little less strength at 401 horsepower.

While the Silverado comes standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the Ram comes with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission. The advantage for the Ram is that its transmission makes for a bit less internal friction and a higher capacity for producing power.

Each truck offers optional Turbo Diesel engines that can both exceed 800 lb-ft of torque, giving them some impressive hauling ability. Yet, whether you’re packing up extra band equipment for a regional tour or gearing up for a large building project, it looks like the Ram base trim will provide the greatest overall capability for your next feat.

Heavy-Duty Pickup Truck Towing Capacity

One of the most important factors for any heavy-duty truck is towing capacity, and the Ram and Silverado offer some impressive abilities when it comes to hauling significant loads.

When configured with the 6.4L HEMI® V8, the Ram 2500 at the base trim level can tow up to 17,540 pounds. The Silverado 2500 with a 6.6L V8 engine maxes out its towing at 14,500 pounds.

Each truck has an impressive capability range as well, with Ram proving to be the best equipped for towing. It has a maximum towing capacity of 20,000 pounds. However, the Silverado has a max towing capacity of just 18,510 pounds.

Versatile Flatbeds Make Loading & Unloading Easy

Hopping in and out of your flatbed with boxes, pieces of furniture, or loads of lumber will be much easier with the flatbed configurations offered by the Ram and Silverado. Each truck’s flatbed comes with accessories that improve its interior visibility, use of space, and overall functionality.

The Ram and Silverado each have LED cargo lighting to make unloading that large ladder or those bags of concrete in the early morning hours before sunrise safe and easy. Bed lighting in the Ram is standard, but available in the Silverado. Each truck’s cargo bed also has an available built-in bed outlet that will make charging power tools at the start of the day a breeze.

Additionally, the Ram and Silverado offer available power release for the tailgate so that you can open it without having to leave the truck’s cabin. The Ram also offers an available bed step just beneath the tailgate, which you can step onto for easy climbing into the flatbed. It stays safely tucked away when you don’t need it, but can be released with a simple kick from you.

The Silverado offers an easy-access step as well, but it doesn’t have this convenient fold-down function.

Ram & Silverado: Interior Features & Technology

The Ram 2500 and Silverado 2500 both have modern interior amenities that will keep you comfortable and in touch with the latest technology.

Each truck has an intuitive touchscreen display that also includes voice recognition technology—making it easier to call your co-workers or family while out on the road. Plus, both trucks include a variety of media options that can help add some fun to the workday.

The Ram and Silverado have standard AM/FM radios, Bluetooth® pairing, and even optional trial subscriptions to SiriusXM® Satellite Radio. However, the Ram trial is for six months while the Silverado trial is only for three months.

Safety at Every Turn

When it comes to keeping you secure on the road, the Ram and Silverado offer a generous collection of safety and driver-assisting features.

Each truck offers an available collision hazard alert system and available automatic braking to help you avoid a collision. The brake assist feature is standard in the Ram, but you’ll need to upgrade to get it with the Silverado.

Each has a rear vision camera to keep you aware of traffic and objects behind you. The trucks also have available parking sensors to help you steer clear of other cars and pedestrians, particularly when backing into tight parking spaces.

Additionally, the Ram offers available 15-degree turning headlamps, which are not offered in the Silverado. These point your headlights where you need them while you navigate dark roads or terrain that’s hard to predict.

Ram 2500 and Silverado: Creature Comforts

Everyone can use a touch of comfort, even while performing tasks. The Ram and Silverado each come with some key creature comforts to give you and your crew the best ride possible from site to site.

Each truck has available dual-zone automatic climate control, so you and your passenger can adjust the temperature to your liking. Each also offers available heated and ventilated front seats to optimize your comfort inside, no matter what the outside elements throw your way.

The Ram and Silverado also offer power seat adjustments so that every rider can settle into a satisfying position while riding or taking a lunch break inside.
