2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Safety Fletcher

Safety

The Grand Cherokee and Cherokee can be outfitted with a variety of safety features. Each one offers its own set of standard and available safety technology, and there’s a lot of overlap between the two. For example, both models come standard with the ParkView® Rear Back-Up Camera. The Grand Cherokee, however, adds in Dynamic Gridlines and a Trailer View for extra reversing ease.

They also both feature Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Path Detection Systems. You’ll be able to more precisely merge into a nearby lane as well as more carefully back out of a driveway or parking lot thanks to these systems.

There are, however, a few extra standard features included with the Cherokee. These include Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking and the LaneSense® Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist. The first can detect a possible collision and engage the brakes to bring the vehicle to a stop. The latter feature makes sure you stay within lane lines. Similar features are available as upgrades on the Grand Cherokee.

Both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee share some other available features, like Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist. Parallel parking is made easier as this system controls the steering of your vehicle into a parallel or perpendicular parking space. There’s also available Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go. You choose the following distance you want, and this system will maintain it. Plus, it knows to stop your vehicle as the car in front of you is stopping.

Performance & Capability

The Grand Cherokee is designed for different driving types, and it comes with one extra engine option than the Cherokee. In the Grand Cherokee, you’ll find a standard V6 engine that can produce up to 295 horsepower, while the Cherokee’s standard 4-cylinder engine delivers 180 horsepower.

If you’d like to upgrade to more power, the Grand Cherokee gives you the choice of three V8 engines that can deliver anywhere from 360 horsepower up to an impressive 707 horsepower. In the Cherokee, the engine upgrades include a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a V6 engine, which produce 270 horsepower and 271 horsepower respectively.

When it comes to capability, the Grand Cherokee offers different four-wheel-drive systems to tackle rough roads and hard trails equally well, while the Cherokee has a trail-ready model of its own with performance enhancements. These 4x4 models will come with the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System, which includes drive modes for Sand, Snow, and Mud, among others.

Towing is also possible with these two Jeep vehicles. Being the larger of the two, the Grand Cherokee can tow up to 7,200 pounds with a V8 engine, but the Cherokee is no slouch with its 4,500-pound towing capacity via its V6 engine.
